NFL player charged with drunk driving after Florida game

Many Florida football fams watched the Miami Dolphins beat the Arizona Cardinals by 26 to 23 on Dec. 11. Shortly after his team flew home from the game, 27-year-old Cardinals receiver Michael Floyd was booked for DUI charges in Arizona. The incident took place at 2:48 a.m. on Dec. 12.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, Floyd was found asleep in the driver's seat of his car. The car was still running at the time, and Floyd was reportedly slumped over the steering wheel. In addition to two counts of drunk driving, Floyd was charged with failure to obey a police officer and obstructing a roadway. He was allowed to go free hours after he was booked.

Under league rules, the NFL could suspend Floyd for two games if he is convicted on his DUI charges. Floyd has been charged with DUI in the past, while he was playing for Notre Dame. Floyd is currently in the final year of his contract with the Cardinals, and he will become a free agent after this season.

People who have been charged with drunk driving after they were found asleep in their vehicle may argue that they were not under the influence of alcohol. Drowsy drivers may act similarly to a drunk driver, but they cannot be charged for DUI unless their blood alcohol level was above .08 percent. An attorney may be able to help them to argue that they were drowsy and that the prosecution does not have enough evidence to convict them on drunk driving charges.
