Drug sting results in arrests

Florida residents concerned about the use of illicit drugs in their area may be interested to learn of several arrests by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office in March. Over 50 people were taken into as a result of a two-month-long investigation.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the focus of the investigation was Cape Canaveral, where purchases of illegal substances were made by undercover agents. Complaints by area residents spurred the operation. Eight of the individuals who were charged were accused of selling cocaine. Other drug dealers allegedly sold heroin, marijuana, prescription pills, methamphetamine and counterfeit controlled substances.

There were also arrests made for prostitution. According to an affidavit, an online ad inquiring about spending time together was located by an undercover Brevard County Sheriff's agent. An individual arranged a tryst at a hotel in Cape Canaveral after responding to an offer of $150 for an hour. On March 16, at about 1:30 a.m., a 32-year-old woman arrived at the hotel and was arrested by agents. A 46-year-old man who had driven the woman to the engagement was also taken into custody. The woman was charged with offering to engage in or commit prostitution. The man was charged with a felony for using the earnings of prostitution to make a living.
