Man facing charges after police find 12 pounds of meth

A 69-year-old Florida man was taken into police custody after he was accused of being in possession of 12 pounds of meth. He was ultimately charged with multiple offenses, including trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of multiple controlled substances including marijuana and oxycodone.

On July 29, Suwanee County authorities received information from another police department that a wanted man was located at the River Run Campground in Branford. It was noted that he was wanted for violating probation after selling methamphetamine. Authorities had an active warrant for his arrest.

He was taken into custody at a camper that was parked on the campground. While he was being taken into custody, authorities allegedly saw multiple firearms and ammunition that had been placed in plain site. One of the guns had had the serial number removed. This gave the authorities probable cause to search the camper. During this search, the deputies found the 12 pounds of meth, oxycodone tablets, a pound of marijuana and a large amount of cash. He remained in custody on a $267,500 bond.

The state of Florida has seen a rise in drug trafficking, particularly of prescription medications. Those who are accused of drug trafficking can face extremely severe consequences if a conviction is obtained. However, the case against a person could be dismissed if the authorities made mistakes when searching a home or taking that person into custody. A criminal law attorney may mount a strong defense in an effort to get the charges reduced or dismissed.
