Man faces multiple charges after probation security check

A 33-year-old Florida man who was on probation was taken into custody on April 17. A state probation officer and police officers went to the man's home on that day to do a security check at around 8:30 a.m.

Allegedly, officers saw a scale and a bag of white powder when they entered the home. They then searched the premises and reportedly found more than $3,000 cash in the man's bedroom.

On the basis of these discoveries, police were able to obtain a search warrant. They also found nearly 500 grams of cocaine, nearly 40 ounces of cannabis, more than 14 grams of MDMA, 2 grams of ecstasy, over 47 grams of Xanax and more than a gram of tapentadol. Charges against the man included possession of MDMA over 10 grams, possession of cocaine with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a church, possession of cannabis with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a church, maintaining a structure for keeping controlled substances and possession of prescription drugs without a prescription. The man had previously faced a number of other charges including DUI, domestic violence battery, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and drug possession.

Whether a person is facing drug charges of this nature or less serious charges that deal with possession of minor amounts, the consequences can be severe. If a person is on probation at the time the incident occurs or has a prior record, as in this case, then penalties may be higher. In such a case, the person might want to focus on getting the charges and penalties reduced. For example, a plea bargain might allow a person to plead guilty to lesser charges and get a lighter sentence.
