Two Men Arrested in Florida Drug Bust

Jan. 25, 2018

On Jan. 11, two Florida men were taken into custody for allegedly dealing drugs. The incident took place in Punta Gorda.

According to Charlotte County authorities, emergency crews were called to the scenes of two separate heroin overdoses. The overdoses happened less than an hour apart. Both victims were saved when paramedics administered NARCAN. Because both incidents also occurred in close geographical proximity to each other, responding deputies decided to investigate where the victims obtained the drugs.

A 33-year-old man was identified as a possible suspect and detectives executed a search warrant at his residence. Upon entering, authorities found the 33-year-old man and another man with the same last name. They also found a half pound of marijuana, 106 grams of THC, 35 grams of cocaine, 19 grams of methamphetamine, 5 grams of alprazolam, 1.5 grams of lorazepam, 16 suboxone patches, four tablets suspected to be Klonopin, a substance thought to be Fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and a handgun. The 33-year-old defendant is facing multiple drug charges, including trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The second defendant has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Individuals facing drug charges may be able to help their situation by retaining the services of a criminal defense attorney. In some cases, an attorney could build a strong defense against the allegations and work to get the charges dismissed. In other cases, legal counsel could negotiate with prosecutors for a plea deal that lowers the charges and offers a more favorable outcome for the defendant.
