Prosecutors in Florida have a constitutional duty to inform defense attorneys about all exculpatory evidence in a case. Unfortunately, some prosecutors ignore this duty in an effort to better their odds of winning at trial. Doing so is both morally reprehensible and unethical.

Saliva test for THC could become law enforcement tool

Drivers in Florida who police believe are impaired may be subject to other roadside tests besides the Breathalyzer in the future. Scientists at Stanford University have developed a saliva test that they say detects THC in a matter of minutes. Police would only need to take a cheek swab and then check results on a laptop or smartphone.

Florida man faces a raft of drug charges after search

Police in Florida say that a 52-year-old Palatka man who was taken into custody on Sept. 9 was manufacturing and selling methamphetamine out of his Gaskin Road residence. The man is also accused of dealing cocaine and opioids. The charges came after members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office served him with a search warrant that they say was obtained following a three month investigation into his activities. A 39-year-old woman was also taken into custody. She is charged with possessing cocaine and violating the terms of a prior probation order.

There are multiple reasons that Florida residents might have a driver's license suspended or revoked, and some of the causes for this involve alcohol. A license may be suspended when a person refuses to test for intoxication, and a revocation takes place if a conviction is obtained for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

A new study reveals how important rules are in helping to prevent underage drinking in Pennsylvania and across the U.S. Underage drinking is linked to engaging in other high-risk behaviors, including drunk driving. By curbing underage drinking, it is also possible to reduce the number of underage drunk driving incidents.
